App Store Win-Back Offers for Subscribers
A win-back offer is a subscription price for someone whose subscription already lapsed. It is configured on the product. It is not a keyword, and the screenshots should not invent a discount.

Quick answer
What is an App Store win-back offer?
A win-back offer is an auto-renewable subscription offer for lapsed subscribers, set up on a specific subscription product in App Store Connect. Apple shows it to customers who match the paid-duration and time-since-lapse rules you configure. It is not a keyword. The recipe app’s screenshots and promotional text must not advertise a discount the offer does not contain. The subscription has to be approved before you can create the offer.

Supper List is a recipe subscription: a weekly plan, a shopping list, and the dishes themselves. Some people cancel. A win-back offer is how you let Apple present a return price to people whose subscription has already lapsed, on the terms you configure for that subscription product. It is not a line in the keyword field, and it is not a badge you draw on a screenshot because a blog suggested “50 percent off.” This post will not invent that math.
Apple’s help article, Set up win-back offers , is the setup. The subscriptions overview describes where eligible customers can see the offer. Messages you send when someone is about to leave, or while they are still subscribed, are a different tool. That job is retention messaging. Win-back starts after the lapse.
It belongs to one subscription, not the keyword field
You create the offer on a subscription product, not on the subscription group as a whole. The subscription has to be approved by App Review before the offer exists. Customers are eligible only for a win-back offer on their most recently lapsed subscription product within each group. If Supper List has a monthly plan and a yearly plan in one group, a person who last paid for monthly is not automatically eligible for a yearly win-back. Create an offer on each product you actually want to bring back.
Account Holder, Admin, App Manager, or Marketing can set it up. In Apps, open Subscriptions, the group, the product, then Subscription Prices, and add a win-back offer. The reference name is for you. The offer identifier shows up in Sales and Trends and in StoreKit transactions, and it cannot repeat another offer identifier in the same group. Neither name nor identifier can be changed after you create the offer. The earliest start is one day after today. The offer has to run at least three days. Start and end times vary by region.
Eligibility is two clocks you set
The form asks how long someone paid, and how long they have been lapsed. Minimum paid duration can be 1 to 24 months, or 3, 4, or 5 years. Time since last subscribed needs both a minimum and a maximum, from 1 to 24 months. Apple’s example: 5 to 11 months shows the offer only to people lapsed that long. Wait between offers is optional, from 2 to 24 months before the same offer can be redeemed again.
A first Supper List offer should target people who paid for at least a month and have been gone for a few months. Introductory offers are for new subscribers. Promotional offers are business logic you implement for existing or former subscribers. Offer codes are codes you hand out. Win-back is the offer Apple can display from this configuration. Do not put a discount on a screenshot that the offer does not contain.
What you configure, and what the page may say
| Piece | Where it lives | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility | Paid duration and months since the subscription ended, on the offer. | Do not describe a different lapse window in the subtitle or a screenshot. |
| Price shape | Free, pay as you go, or pay up front, with a duration and price you confirm in Connect. | Do not print a percent off or a currency amount the offer does not contain. |
| Product page | Shown on the App Store only if you promote the offer and have an approved subscription image. | Do not use promotional text as a substitute for that promotion switch. |
The offer’s eligibility, duration, and price are whatever you confirm in App Store Connect. The recipe app’s screenshots and promotional text have to match that offer, not a discount you only wish you had configured.
Price, priority, and the image
You choose Pay as you go, Pay up front, or Free, then a duration and a price. Connect shows comparable prices for all 175 storefronts. You can edit a storefront before you confirm, and you cannot change the price after the offer exists. Overlapping offers are resolved by Apple using price, duration, and how long the customer paid. Normal or High priority tells the store which offer matters more. The cap is 350 win-back offers on a subscription, and 5 running per storefront at a time. Monthly plans with a 12-month commitment are also limited to 5 active offers per storefront. The offer types are described on Apple’s subscriptions page .
Those caps are not a discount. Pick free, pay as you go, or pay up front from Connect’s prices, read the confirmation, and only then write email. The redemption URL is for eligible people. Check eligibility before you send it.
Where lapsed cooks actually see it
After the start date, the offer shows on Manage Subscriptions on iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.3, and macOS 14 or later, and on the in-app sheet on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 or later. That sheet appears without extra work. You can adjust it with StoreKit. Promoting the offer on the product page is a separate switch.
Promotion puts the offer on the product page, and can place it in editorial and personalized spots, on macOS 15, iOS 18, and iPadOS 18 or later. You need a subscription image approved by App Review, and it cannot match the app icon or a screenshot. Promoting the offer replaces other in-app purchase promotions in that storefront. Streamlined purchasing is on by default. You can turn it off.
Promotional text is a different field
Promotional text is 170 characters above the description, and you can change it without a new version. Use it for “New spring recipes are in.” It does not create a StoreKit offer or set a price. A discount named there that the win-back offer does not include is inaccurate metadata. The field difference is in promotional text versus the description. You cannot revise the offer price after you create it.
AppGrowthKit should frame the recipe library, the weekly plan, and the shopping list. Those shots should not wear a sale sticker unless that sticker is the offer you confirmed. A win-back offer does not repair a broken shopping list. Fix the list.
Configure a Supper List win-back offer
Do this on the subscription the lapsed cook actually bought. Leave the product page silent about price until the confirmation screen matches what you are willing to show.
Confirm the subscription is approved
Open the monthly or yearly Supper List product and check that App Review has approved it. The help article blocks offer creation until that approval exists. Decide which product lapsed customers should return to. If both monthly and yearly matter, you will create a separate win-back offer on each, because eligibility follows the most recently lapsed product in the group, not the group as a whole.
Set the two eligibility clocks
Choose a minimum paid duration from the values Connect allows, from one month up through the year options the form lists. Set time since last subscribed as a minimum and a maximum, both required, between 1 and 24 months. Write that range in your notes in plain language, such as “paid at least one month, lapsed three to twelve months,” only if those are the numbers you selected. Add a wait between offers only if you do not want the same offer redeemed again immediately.
Pick free, pay as you go, or pay up front
Choose one discount type and a duration, then a price from Connect’s list. Read the comparable prices for the storefronts you will enable. You cannot change the price after you create the offer, so do not confirm a number you have not said out loud. Skip any percent calculation that is not on the confirmation screen. Set the date range for at least three days, starting no earlier than tomorrow, and choose Normal or High priority if you will have more than one offer live.
Promote only with a real subscription image
If the offer should appear on the product page, upload a subscription image that is not the app icon and not a screenshot, get it approved, and turn on Promote Offer. Know that this replaces other in-app purchase promotions in that storefront. If you are not ready for the page to feature the offer, leave promotion off. Manage Subscriptions and the in-app sheet still show it to eligible people on the OS versions Apple lists. Copy the redemption URL only for a message you will send to people who qualify.
Make the listing match the offer
Read the product page as a lapsed subscriber would. Promotional text can mention that former subscribers may see a return offer, if that sentence is true, and it must not state a price or a length you did not configure. Screenshots stay on the recipes. Submit a version if you need to change screenshots, subtitle, or description. Promotional text itself does not need a binary. Then watch Sales and Trends for the offer identifier instead of guessing from keyword rank.
Key takeaways
- Win-back is for lapsed subscribers, configured per subscription product, not per group and not as a keyword.
- Eligibility is minimum paid time plus a required min and max for how long they have been unsubscribed.
- The price is free, pay as you go, or pay up front, chosen in Connect, and it cannot be edited after creation.
- The product page shows the offer only if you promote it, with an approved image that is not your icon or a screenshot.
- Promotional text can change without a version. It still cannot advertise a discount the offer does not contain.
Frequently asked questions
Who is eligible for a win-back offer?
Lapsed subscribers, and only for their most recently lapsed subscription product inside each subscription group. You set a minimum paid duration, from 1 to 24 months or 3, 4, or 5 years, and a time-since-last-subscribed range with both a minimum and a maximum between 1 and 24 months. Optional wait-between-offers is 2 to 24 months. Someone who never subscribed needs an introductory offer. Someone who canceled but has not expired yet is still in the current period.
Can I put the discount in the keyword field?
No. The keyword field is for search terms, 100 characters, and it is not where StoreKit reads prices. A win-back offer is created under the subscription’s prices in App Store Connect, with an identifier you will see in sales reports. Stuffing “discount” or a competitor’s name into keywords will not show an offer sheet to a lapsed cook. It can get the metadata rejected. Describe the recipes in the name and subtitle. Let the offer configuration describe the price.
Will the offer show on my product page automatically?
Not on the App Store product page. It does show automatically, once the start date is reached, on Manage Subscriptions for the OS versions in the help article, and on the in-app win-back sheet on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 or later. The product page, plus editorial and personalized placements, require you to promote the offer and to have an approved subscription image that is not your icon or a screenshot. Promoting it replaces in-app purchase promotions in that storefront. Skip promotion and the page stays a normal recipe listing.
How is this different from promotional text?
Promotional text is 170 characters at the top of the description. You can edit it without submitting a version. It does not set who is eligible and it does not change what they are charged. A win-back offer is the charge: free, pay as you go, or pay up front, for a duration, for people who match the lapse rules, on one subscription product. Use promotional text for news, such as a new week of recipes. Use the offer for the return price. If the text names a deal, the offer has to contain that deal.
What if I want a different price after I publish the offer?
You cannot change the price after the offer is created. You also cannot change the reference name or the offer identifier. Before the offer is live you can still edit dates, eligibility, countries, priority, and whether it is promoted, according to the help article’s edit table. After it is live, the editable set is smaller, and price stays fixed. A different return price means a new offer, inside five per storefront at a time. Apple picks among overlaps using price, duration, and tenure.
