Quick answer

What are good App Store subtitle examples under 30 characters?

A good App Store subtitle names the job or category the 30-character app name could not hold. Apple indexes the subtitle for search. Do not repeat the name, do not write a slogan, and leave room to localize. “Habit tracker for parents” (25) beats “The best daily lifestyle app” (28). Count with a character counter before you submit.

  • App Store subtitle character limit: 30 characters, indexed
  • Use it for the job, audience, or category — not a second brand name
  • Do not repeat words already in the app name
  • Write to ~24–26 in English if you will translate
  • Promotional text is a different 170-character field and does not rank

The App Store subtitle sits under the name on the product page and in search. The App Store subtitle character limit is 30 characters — the same length as the name. Apple treats name, subtitle, and the hidden 100-character keyword field as the search-oriented metadata. A slogan that could sit on any app in the category is 30 wasted ranking characters.

Limits come from Apple’s product page guidance . The full field map is in our character-limit reference. Count the draft in the ASO Character Counter before you fall in love with a 31-character line.

App Store subtitle examples under 30 characters

These are original examples for indie categories, not competitor copies. Each one adds a job or audience the name would usually omit. None of them say “app,” “#1,” or “best.”

A usable subtitle names the job or the audience in 30 characters or fewer. Count before you submit — 31 characters will not save.

Subtitles that waste the 30 characters

App Store subtitle mistakes
Bad subtitleWhat it gets wrong
The best daily lifestyle appSuperlative, “app,” no job
Northline hiking mapsRepeats a name that already says Northline if that is the brand-plus-keyword title
Powerful. Simple. Yours.Slogan. Could sit on any listing
Habit tracker habit streaksKeyword list; also likely duplicates the name
Now with widgets and AIFeature dump; dates the page; AI is not a job

If the line repeats the name, could describe any app, or reads like a keyword bag, it is not a subtitle. It is leftover ad copy.

How the subtitle works with name and keywords

Apple’s indexed budget is effectively 30 + 30 + 100. Put the brand and one head term in the name. Put the job, audience, or second category in the subtitle. Put remaining synonyms in the 100-character keyword field as comma-separated terms with no spaces after commas. Do not spend the subtitle restating a word already in the name — Apple indexes both, so the repeat costs you a term you could have added.

Leave room to localize

“Reminders” is 9 characters. German Erinnerungen is 13. A subtitle that lands at 30 in English will overflow in the first locale you actually ship. Write English to about 24–26 when you know you will translate, then recount each language. The promise should stay; the word order should not be a calque.

Write a 30-character App Store subtitle

Do this after the 30-character name is locked so you do not repeat the brand for half the field.

  1. Write the uncut job sentence

Ignore the counter. “Help parents keep a habit streak without another generic tracker.”

  2. Cut to the job or the audience

Drop “help,” “app,” and “best.” Land on “Habit tracker for parents” or “Streaks without the guilt.”

  3. Strip words already in the name

If the name is “Streakday Habit Tracker,” the subtitle should not say habit tracker again. Use the audience or the differentiator.

  4. Count, then localize

Paste into the ASO Character Counter. Stay at or under 30. If you ship other locales, recount those strings separately.

App Store subtitle questions

What is the App Store subtitle character limit?

30 characters. It is the same length as the app name. Apple indexes both fields for search, along with the 100-character keyword field.

Is the App Store subtitle the same as the Google Play short description?

No. Play’s short description is 80 characters and shows on search cards. You cannot paste a 30-character iOS subtitle into Play and call it done. See Google Play short description.

Can I put keywords in the subtitle?

You can use a real phrase people search, written as a sentence fragment a human would say. Do not stuff a list. Do not repeat the name. Do not use competitor names or trademarks.

Do I need a new app version to change the subtitle?

Subtitle changes go out with a version that App Review approves. Promotional text is the field you can edit without a new binary.
